Contemporary artist and founder of Own The Mountain, Taylor Smith, fell in love with snow and mountains at a younger age while living in Southern Germany. Taylor spent her days enjoying winter sports in Austria, Lichtenstein, Switzerland, France and Italy and learned the value of healthy climate and snowfalls in these mountain regions. When Taylor experienced the effects of climate change first hand in the glacier regions of the Alps, she wanted to make a difference. She began collecting snow from her favorite places on the mountain and using that melted snow water in her artworks to highlight what was happening.

Taylor is now giving back through her passion — fine art. Taylor creates both large and smaller scale abstract artworks using water from melted snow, acrylic paint, ink, wood stain, oil and charcoal to create works that evoke the cold beauty of snowy landscapes and majestic mountains. She also offers fine art prints in small limited editions that can be framed. Profits from the sale of these works are donated to non-profit organizations well-positioned to make a difference in the fight against climate change and the loss of snow pack and snow in the regions that depend on a stable and healthy climate.

Taylor then found a second home in Park City, Utah where she spent many hours on the mountains across the Wasatch Range. Park City has a dynamic and mindful culture that thrives during winter. Taylor had an idea that she could give back through her artworks that are literally created with one of the most important elements of winter — the snow that blankets our landscapes and that is increasingly in danger due to climate change. Taylor creates bright, expressive and free-flowing abstract paintings with actual melted snow that is mixed with the paint and vibrant inks to create an artwork that is at home wherever you call home and allows you to own a piece of the mountain that brings you joy all while benefiting the growing movement to protect climate and our winters. Taylor donates profits from these original paintings and limited edition numbered prints directly to your favorite non-profit organization dedicated to fighting climate change and protecting the snow in Utah or anywhere else in the world.

As for Park City Mountain Resort and the multitude of mountain areas nestled north of Salt Lake City, we hope you will visit soon to experience this most special of places. The glacier-carved Little Cottonwood Canyon just a short drive from both Park City and Salt Lake City is a 15-mile-long wonder that is a mecca for climbing, hiking, fly fishing and skiing. Literally covered with national forest, Little Cottonwood Canyon boasts stunning slopes and glades for skiing and riding at Alta Ski Area and Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort. This paradise is home to summer wildflowers and natural wildlife that makes cycling, mountain biking and fly fishing in the warmer months when the snow is seen only at the very highest elevations.

Located just north of Little Cottonwood is Big Cottonwood Canyon. Just like it’s sister canyon, two phenomenal ski resorts are located here — Brighton Ski Resort and Solitude Mountain Resort. Due to both canyons’ ideal location the winter snow levels are usually deep and the powder can be endless. There is also abundant climbing with both traditional and bolted climbs and some of the best trails in Utah offering lakes and wilderness areas that will connect with trails in Mills Creek Canyon and the Park City area.

Whether you like in Utah and regularly experience the beauty and nature of this treasure, or you are visiting to experience winter sports in the Wasatch Mountain range, request a vial from Taylor. She will send you a snow capture vial so that you can share your story and that water with her to create a unique and purposeful artwork that will benefit protecting winters. Fight Climate Change Through Fine Art. A win-win for the 21st century.
